Summary
Alison Green, coordinator of Oregon: Living with Fire, offers context on our fire environment, best practice for residents, and how residents can engage in landscape health. Central Oregon is no stranger to wildland fire. Due to our local reality, Central Oregon residents have a responsibility to understand our local ecosystem and wildfire risk. The local landscapes need active management, including the introduction of fire back into our landscape, to make it more resilient to disturbance and meet management objectives in a variety of conditions. Neighborhoods and communities throughout the area need to improve and sustain the capacity to prepare for, respond to, and recover from wildfire. By taking community-wide actions, homeowners can ensure their home is resilient to ignition, and their yard is prepared to survive a wildland fire event
