- Summary

- In the schoolyard, the children line up one after the other, take distance with the arm to mark the space between each one, a row next to each other, forming a perfect square, a kind of board, as pieces of a game, but nobody knows which one. Nona Fernández builds a choral, dreamlike and poetic text to narrate the childhood of some high school classmates in the Piochet dictatorship. Between dreams and memories the voices of children, now young adults, reconstruct those years of darkness and the way in which atrocious permeated their daily lives. Twenty years later, the rules imposed by the school, the inexplicable disappearance of some older brother, the sudden departure to Germany of the companion Gonzalez, daughter of a carabiner of weight, the absolute silence of the teacher when it occurred to someone to ask what it was getting into politics, they appear as moments of a nightmare that nobody wants to remember but in which inevitably those children who were are submerged, looking for a way to wake up
